I’ll admit that I have, on occasion, used the television as a babysitter. Does that make me the worst mom ever? Hardly. Any mom who tells you that she’s never turned on some Bubble Guppies just so she could get 30 minutes of sanity-restoring peace and quiet is either A) lying, or B) not taking advantage of all the tools available to her.

In my defense, I do limit our daughter’s TV watching and, when she does get some screen time, it’s almost always an educational cartoon or show. But instead of adding $20 or $30 a month to your cable package just so you can get a few extra kid-friendly channels, you might consider online children’s TV websites like Kidoodle.tv.

website channels

Kidoodle.tv is a website that offers unlimited streaming of more than 60 shows for kids 12 and under. It’s only $4.99 per month, but it’s free for the entire month of December for those who might want a sneak peek. (See the last paragraph of this entry for details about how to get Kidoodle.tv FREE for a whole year!) Here are just a few of things I love about the site:

  1. KID-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTS – The easy-to-use interface allows parents to create customized, age-filtered accounts for up to five different kids.
  1. KID-FRIENDLY CONTENT – Each channel is free of advertising and age-filtered, which means your three-year-old won’t see something that is meant for an 11-year-old.
  1. PARENTAL CONTROLS – The passcode-protected Parent Center allows you to choose which shows appears for each of your kids’ accounts. You can also control how much screen time they get by setting timers that control the duration of their usage.
  1. TONS OF SHOWS – There really is something for every child on Kidoodle.tv. Our little one loves animals, which means the National Geographic Critter Cam channel (“the world through animal eyes”) and Zoo Babies are two of her favorites.

  12. what a great gift idea. i should get this.

  13. That would be a good idea for busy moms. Its not that its encouraging parents to sit their kids in front of the tv so they can do other things, but what is important is the actual tv shows that parents make their kids watch. Kidoodle tv is one of the best choices for kids, and economical for parents.

  14. I’ve never heard of Kidooole Tv. Looks like its totally worth it. I will definitely check them out. Plus its FREE….. Yes please 🙂

  15. I am like that too. TV is just so easy. turn it on and have the children watch the show they like and you get the me time you wanted. it sounded bad but we do need me time once in awhile. it;s not totally bad because we are still technically watching them while they’re watching TV. i gotta limit their TV viewing though. Great post
