I guess the thing to do on the anniversary of your blog is to write 100 facts about yourself (or so I’ve heard). Although I’m 3 weeks late (guess I should add procrastination to my list), I figured I’d share a few fun facts about myself with you guys – there was no way I could come up with 100, sorry. No judging, but laughter is acceptable. 🙂
- I have a BA in Communications and spent nearly 10 years in the world of PR and advertising – neither of which could prepare me for the blogging world – before becoming at stay-at-home mom.
- I have one daughter. She is 2 going on 16.
- I have one husband. He is 38 going on 16.
- I only get annoyed by my husband when he’s breathing. Just kidding. Sort of.
- I have an 11-year-old boxer and 2 crazy cats (both rescues).
- I chose the blog name Motherhood on the Rocks to describe the sometimes rocky nature of motherhood, and in honor of my absolute favorite drink – a classic margarita – on the rocks…with salt!
- Wine is one of my favorite things in the world, but I’m no connoisseur.
- Pizza is another one of my favorite things. I would eat it every day if it wasn’t for my ever-expanding ass.
- I live in the northeast, but often fantasize about moving to Hawaii.
- Like (unlike?) most parents, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing most of the time.
- I spent a few years in nursing school and worked in a rehab facility for brain injury victims, before the emotional toll and insane schedule became too much. I have a lot of respect for those who do it day in and day out!
- I rarely crave chocolate or sweets, but don’t get between me and a crusty piece of bread or potatoes in any form.
- I enjoy escaping with a good book.
- I can’t whistle.
- My favorite things to do are play with my daughter and cuddle with my hubby.
- Every day I need about 15 minutes of complete silence to recharge.
- I detest exercise.
- I’m a hopeless Diet Coke addict.
- When I was a little girl, I wanted to be the first woman president. But now I know that being a mother is much harder job.
- I have a Minor in Spanish, pero yo sólo sé un poquito ahora.
- I’m a night owl. Or an insomniac. Or like an unruly toddler who loves finding more and more ways to delay bedtime. I haven’t figured out which yet.
- I tend to be shy until you get to know me.
- My music collection consists of everything from Alicia Keys to Pink Floyd to Eminem to the Beatles. But my favorite sound in the world is my daughter’s laughter.
- I grew up in a very rural area and now live in the suburbs, but would be equally happy living in Manhattan (or in grass hut on the north shore of Oahu).
- I’m passionate about food, music, wine, writing and animal welfare. Not necessarily in that order.
- I consider my family to be friends and my friends, family.
- I’m extremely organized and can’t focus until things are exactly where they should be.
- But I tend to get distracted a lot.
- Where was I? Oh yes, one more thing…I love to laugh and try to find the humor in life.
There you have it! 29 things about me that you may or may not have known. In honor of “getting to know you day” (yeah I made it up), share a few things about yourself (or feel free to just make fun of me) and if you have a blog, feel free to share that, too!
Oh dear, are you sure we aren’t related. (except for the organized part) I loved the part about wanting to be the first woman president. I agree that motherhood tends to be a very demanding job! I don’t think anything can prepare you for that. Maybe that’s where #18 and #7 come in 😉
Definitely where 18 and 7 come in! You need lots of both to keep up!
I’d have to agree on 27-29 for myself as well.
You have to be my soul sister!!
We have like 20 of these 29 things in common! Great post and Happy Anniversary!
Awww that’s sweet Sara, my soul sister.
I definitely did not know these things about you. It’s very impressive to me that you not only know Spanish, but have a Minor in it. I took five years of Spanish classes in middle and high school and came out knowing how to ask where the bathroom is and how to order coffee.
Oh yes! I learned quickly how to ask to go to the bathroom. And I also learned “no se” very quickly!
I really like this entry. It’s nice to get to know you more! 🙂
Thanks, Heather! I’m glad we finally got to meet and become friends. 🙂
I can’t whistle either! My husband makes fun of me for this!
My husband makes fun of me, too. He was appalled when I told him I couldn’t whistle – like I told him I had 2 glass eyes!
I love a good margarita on the rocks too! I haven’t had one in over a year though!
It’s been a while for me, too! Maybe the hubby will take me somewhere on Valentine’s Day so I can get one. hint hint
What a great list thanks for sharing about yourself.
I fantasize about moving to Hawaii too!
Thanks for letting me get to know you better. I love potatoes in any form as well and LOLed at what you said about your hubby, I hope he doesn’t read your blog! Lately I’ve also been addicted to spicy foods and onions, like seriously can’t get enough, which is weird since I used to never eat either. If you want us to share your blogs, consider the comment luv plugin!
Thanks! I love spicy foods, too! mmm Oh and I did have comment luv activated but it brought in a virus. I’ve been meaning to get the premium version.
We have alot in common LOL easily distracted ?! wait what were we talking about hehe? I too took spanish for 7 years (two years in college), half my family speaks spanish and yet I don’t think I could have a full convo !
lol! Did I get the second have of that sentence right? I wasn’t sure. I just took a guess!
I too love pizza, wine, and am a night owl. But I also love to get up early – so I don’t get much sleep either. I love that you are upfront and honest about yourself 🙂 Very genuine! Congratulations on 1 year!
Thank you! Pizza and wine lover – a girl after my own heart!
Twins! Except for the night owl thing…as you know 🙂
Cate, my West Coast twins! <3
oh and the sweets…its all i crave
Very interesting. I love the story behind your blog name.
I love this post! And the hubby going on 16 made me giggle, my hubby is the same!
I do have a have a blog
http://www.savannahmiller1987.blogspot.com/
The url savannahmiller1987 is because I forget everything! I made it easy for myself by putting 2 things I can’t forget, I figured if I forgot my name and birth year I shouldn’t be on the computer any more!
hmm…maybe I should get off of this things then. 😉
I love these lists. It is fun to learn more about the women behind the blog 😉 We have a lot in common actually. Thank you for sharing a bit more about you in a list format. Let’s not exercise today and drink three cans of diet coke “together” okay? Ha!
I’m with ya! lol
This was fun to read and happy anniversary! We’ve so got the same taste in drinks–bring on those margaritas and that Diet Coke! Holding my glass up in cheers to you!
Thanks! We are close enough we should get together for margaritas sometime!
We have SO much in common…So, when are we moving to Hawaii? First we must hit the lottery because it’s very expensive there. Oh, and I’m annoyed by my boyfriend when he breaths, too…I wake up wondering if it’s time for him to leave for work yet lol
We won’t need to much money if we share a grass hut on the North Shore! Just enough for a one-way ticket! 🙂
I *love* numbers 2-4 LOL
I too have a toddler going on 16 !
Thanks for sharing all your personal tidbits! It was fun to read 🙂
I’m too chicken to do that lol
Oh I am so laughing at your daughter’s and husbands ages! lol. I feel the same way! I have a 3 year old going on 16! And my Husband…he’s over 30 but definitely sometimes acts like a teenager. Boys…goodness. lol.
I studied communications in College too. I emphasized in Journalism and Business Organizational communications. It didn’t help much with turning to blogging either. Odd right?
I can really really relate with #10!! Sigh
Great post. I can relate to a lot these. I am very organized also or at least try to. I love the name of your blog by the way
Wow! We have like 25 things in common! You’re little one is adorable 🙂
Thanks! I think so, too!
I am just doing a test comment. But will definitely come back and read this list!
We have so much in common! I kept reading and kept saying, “Me too!” over and over again!
Happy Blogging Anniversary! I -love- numbers 2 thru 4. LOL.
#23….Loved the whole list- identified with SO much of it- especially #3 (ha!), but #23 was the best. My little girl’s laughter is the world’s best sound.
