For the past few days, we have hitting potty training pretty hard. We got the diva the First Years Disney Princess Potty and she really likes it because it makes sounds and has a cushy seat – and of course it’s pink and has the Disney Princesses on it.
The things is, she will sit for as long as I ask her, but she only goes so often on the potty. More often than not, I’m on my hands and knees scrubbing pee of the floor (thank goodness we have hardwood). Not fun.
She will tell me sometimes that she needs a diaper (which we only use for naps and bedtime), so I take her to the potty and she just sits and sits. If I put a diaper on her, she will go, so she can clearly hold it and know when she has to go. But I can’t seem to explain to her that she should go on the potty.
I’m at a loss, so I’m turning to you. Have you tried any of these book or have any potty training tips? My floor will be forever in your debt.
The one thing I did hear is use rewards. Have a VERY special treat that she only gets when she pees on the Potty! My friend also said that you should show her how you pee on the potty and even sit on her potty and pretend to pee and get really excited. That’s the only help I can give. My little devil wont even sit on the potty without screams.
We have been battling potty-training for MONTHS! Clearly, I’m totally doing something wrong, so I’m not going to even try to add something to the table. Let me know what you figure out!
Potty training is such a rough job!
Have you attempted the big potty? My kids HATED the potty chair…okay, so the two that are trained…lol. Drake and Sierra would scream if you put them on the potty chair, or not go, but as soon as I put them on the big potty (holding them of course) they went. Just a thought….they also make seats for the big potty so they don’t fall in….My kids didn’t like those either, lol!
With my little guy we give him little treats. We also sing a song and do a happy potty dance. He does have a lot of success with that. Although he’s also figured out that if he goes just a little, he gets a treat, then he goes just a little bit more for another treat, and then just a little bit more… Sneaky kid.
He does still have an occasional wet accident, and won’t even consider pooping on the potty.
Thanks for all the advice! It’s touch and go right now, but we’re managing. 🙂
