Reclaiming Our Dining Room: A Home Lighting Makeover

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

To call our dining room a “dining room” isn’t entirely accurate. In fact, it’s a bold-faced lie. Truth is, I can’t remember the last time we actually dined in there (that distinction goes to our living room). Rather than being used for its intended purpose, our dining table has become a place to collect unopened mail. Or a place to do crafts. Or a place where groceries are plopped before they’re put away. Or a place where any number of odds and ends are deposited when someone (my husband) doesn’t feel like putting it where it belongs. Yes, it was time to put the “dining” back in our dining room. It was time for a makeover. Luckily I scored some coupons for free reveal light bulbs from GE (as always the opinions below are my own)!

I’m a firm believer in having the right light for the right job, so my makeover started with the light bulbs. During a trip to Walmart, I picked up a four-pack of GE Reveal bulbs. I’ve experimented with the Reveal bulbs in other rooms and always loved how the light seemed so “clean” and natural.

You might be thinking all light bulbs are the same – and that used to be true – but GE Reveal bulbs are different. As you can see in the before and after picture below, our old bulbs cast a dull, yellowish light, while the Reveal bulbs offer a brighter, more natural light. The unique glass used in the Reveal bulbs filters out the dull, yellow rays, leaving you with enhanced, vivid surrounding light.

#GELightingpin itAmong my Walmart dining room makeover purchases was a nice centerpiece for the table. I love this red bamboo bowl and, since we were fresh out of fake plastic lemons, I picked up a dozen of those, too. One thing you’ll notice in this picture is how the Reveal bulbs bring out colors and patterns that can often go unnoticed.

I’ve always been envious of people who have an endless supply of fresh flowers on their dining room table. (I’ve seen those people in the movies, but do they exist in real life?) To recreate the look, I picked up a few bud vases and a modest bunch of flowers. Here’s another benefit of the Reveal bulbs: They have a superior, color-enhanced spectrum that brings out more vibrant colors – like ones in this picture!

To celebrate our hard work, we decided to have dinner in our new-and-improved, wonderfully-lit dining room. So how great are the new GE Reveal bulbs? They’re so great, they even make grilled cheese and tomato soup look fantastic!
