SUMMER FLASHBACK: FAVORITE CHILDHOOD BOOKS

It’s time for another Summer Flashback (a fun blog hop created by Tammy’s Two Cents). Today we’re sharing our favorite childhood books, which I absolutely love, because reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine, even now.

I especially enjoyed series books during my preteen years — Sweet Valley High, the Saddle Club and Nancy Drew  — the strong character development in each series made you personally vested in the storylines, impatiently waiting for the next book to come out. There are some trilogies I enjoyed recently, including The Hunger Games and Millennium Series, but long series of books don’t seem too common anymore. Some of my all-time favorite books are ironically not even series. It would be hard to narrow my current favorites down to one. Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Veronika Decides to Die, and Cien Anos de Soledad (which I painstakingly read in Spanish) are four of my all-time favorites.

But back to this week’s theme: favorite childhood books. I think my love affair with books started with the Berenstain Bears. When I first started school, I remember going to the library, enjoying storytime and then being allowed to pick out some books to borrow. I always headed straight for the Berenstain Bears. I don’t remember many of the stories, because it was so long ago, but I do remember reading them over and over.

What were you favorite books growing up?
