Seventh Generation Introduces Wee Generation (Plus a Giveaway!)

Before I had my daughter I didn’t think much about what I put on or in my body. I ate with reckless abandon and used whatever product smelled great or worked really well. When I got pregnant, I knew I’d have to be more cautious. No more toxic hair dye. No sushi. No caffeine. No skydiving… When she was born, I remained vigilant since I was breastfeeding. But I was also concerned with what went on her body.

Of course, you aren’t supposed to use things like bug spray and sunscreen, but what about the good old shampoos and lotions?  If you dig a little deeper into what really goes into baby products I think you’d be shocked.  Let me break it down for you:

  • The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics documented the widespread presence of both formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane  in bath products for children, including baby shampoos, bubble baths and baby lotions.
  • A study from The Endocrine Society’s 94th Annual Meeting showed that  children with the highest DEHP levels had nearly five times the odds of being obese compared with children who had the lowest DEHP levels.
  • Researchers at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center found that children with high urinary levels of parabens were more sensitive to environmental allergens like pollen and pet dander, compared to those with low paraben levels.
  • Research from CDC showed that 97% of people had the chemical sunscreen Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3) in urine, which is related to allergies, hormone disruption, and cell damage.
  • Possibly even scarier, some preservatives in baby products release formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen.

Like all parents, I wanted something more natural and safer for my daughter and tried to do my best to avoid harmful chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, triclosan, diethanolamine and tetrasodium. This is why I’m super excited about Seventh Generation’s new line of USDA certified, biobased-baby personal care products, Wee Generation.wee generationThe Wee Generation line, including baby shampoo and wash, sunscreen, lotion, diaper cream and bubble bath, is the first complete line of USDA Certified Biobased Baby Care Products. They’re endorsed by Healthy Child Healthy World and made from plant-based, all-natural ingredients including extra virgin olive oil. Completely gluten free, the line is free from synthetic fragrances, phthalates and parabens.  And of course, it’s tear-free and non-toxic.wee generationI recently got to test out the complete line. One of the first things I do when I am checking out a new product is too smell it. I’ve encountered many “natural” products that smell…let’s say, not so great. The Wee Gen line, however, smells amazing! It has a light, citrusy scent. The baby wash and lotions made my daughter’s skin so soft and she of course loved the bubble bath. I was also able to learn more about baby massage from Tina Allen of the Liddle Kidz Foundation. Massage was something we tried on our daughter when she was a baby and very colicky. It seemed to help a good bit and she still enjoys when I rub lotion into her arms, legs and feet. What girl would pass up a good foot rub?!

Massage can ease baby’s tummy troubles and teething discomforts, stimulate the release of Oxytocin (a feel-good hormone), reduce levels of Cortisol (a stress hormone), while helping to improve communication and bonding time. You can learn more about baby massage from the Liddle Kidz Foundation or watch the video below.

Seventh Generation has so kindly offered to give away the complete line to two of my readers. Enter using the rafflecopter below!
