If it were up to my husband (he’s the “grill master” in our house), he’d grill all year round. Actually, he does. Oh sure, we grill more often in the summer – at least once a week, and sometimes two or three times – but he’s also been known to shovel a path through the snow to fire up the grill in the middle of January.

Until recently, I was only aware of the tastier benefits of grilling (delicious meals!) and the time-saving benefits (my hubby happily does the cooking!). The folks at Project Envolve recently made me realize that grilling also has very real energy-saving benefits, too. And saving energy also means grilling can save money.

Here are a few ways that grilling can help you save energy this summer:

  • Grilling is more efficient and uses less energy than using your stovetop or oven.
  • Minimal cleanup means you’ll use less hot water. You won’t have to run the dishwasher or use hot water to wash pots and pans.
  • When you grill outside, you’re helping to keep the inside of your home cool by not adding the extra heat from the stove and oven. That means less energy will be used by your air conditioners!

The good news is, you can get these energy savings with either a charcoal or a propane grill. And the more often you grill (we plan to grill at least twice a week this summer), the more energy you’ll save!

For our most recent barbeque feast, we create some oh-so-good steak kebobs with some grilled corn-on-the-cob and potato salad (that’s it below). We didn’t grill the potato salad, of course, but if my husband could find a way to grill that, too, he probably would have!
