PAPA DON’T PREACH: 10 NOT-TOO-CRAZY THINGS I’VE DONE RECENTLY

They say being a parent changes you in ways you can never imagine. I’m living proof of that. Twenty months and two days ago, I was a happily married man with a healthy addiction to video games and zombie movies. Today, I still enjoy video games and I have to wait until the little one (and sometimes mommy) is fast asleep to watch Night of the Living Dead, but I find myself doing things as a father that I would have never in a million years done in my pre-parenthood days.

The following are just a few of the things I’ve done recently that would have never happened two years ago. And yes, many of them involve poop.

  1. Sit in a tiny chair and pretend to drink tea from a tiny plastic teacup.
  2. Pick someone up and sniff their butt to see if they pooped.
  3. Pat the hard lump on someone’s butt to see if they pooped.
  4. Pick a booger out of someone’s nose.
  5. Carry a bright pink paisley diaper bag in public without a care in the world.
  6. Retrieve a poop that rolled out of a diaper onto a changing table.
  7. Order a Happy Meal and find myself excited to see what toy is inside.
  8. Do the hot dog dance.
  9. Wake up with tiny feet in my face.
  10. Wear a tiara.

What the map gets no love? I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the MAP! 😉

  2. Can relate on all fronts, but especially on the pink paisley diaper bag b/c I am rockin’ one too–I call it The Mothership 😉

  3. I’m way past those stages in my son’s life. He is now 13, but rest assured the famous tunes of The Wiggles will NEVER escape my mind. In the meantime, I’m also a “gamer” per se. I love to play Call of Duty (any of the games). It’s not necessarily the most family friendly of games, but it’s okay to still love stuff like that as a parent. You have to reserve a part of yourself to your own identity or else you’ll go mad.
