Some of my fondest memories from my childhood involve helping my mom bake Christmas cookies. And let me tell you, she baked A LOT of them, which means more memories (and cookies) for me! Now that I have a five-year-old of my own, it’s important for me to create some “memories in the baking” for her, too.

In this blog entry, I’ll share some of those memories and a tasty recipe for Oatmeal Brown Sugar Cookies (with M&M’s® Holiday Baking Minis and Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats). I’ll also show you a cute craft to help you give some of those cookies away to friends and family. But first, let’s go shopping…

I do a lot of my holiday baking shopping at Target. During my most recent trip, I picked up a couple of the key ingredients for my cookies — M&M’s® Holiday Baking Minis and Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats — and some Glad® ClingWrap (Holiday Edition) for the craft.

Back at home, it was time to start baking some memories! The M&M’s® Holiday Baking Minis are the perfect size for cookies and the Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats — well, you can’t make oatmeal cookies with that! The Glad® ClingWrap will come in handy for my craft, but more on that later.

Our little helper a boost LOVES helping in the kitchen … as much as a five year old can, of course.

Time to mix up the cookie dough! I don’t know about you, but the mess made when you’re baking cookies is one of the happiest messes in the world. (IMPORTANT NOTE: If you’re placing cookies in a mason jar, make sure the baked cookies are small enough to fit into the mouth of the jar.)

Just 11 minutes in the oven (and a few minutes on the baking sheet after coming out) is all these cookies need. Please note, these cookies WILL BE SOFT in the middle after the 11 minutes is up, but THEY WILL firm up after cooling. Resist the temptation to do what I used to do, which is assume the cookies are undercooked and set the timer for five more minutes. (The result will be hard, overcooked cookies!)

Now it’s time to make our craft. This is super simple to make, and all you’ll need is some Glad® ClingWrap, a mason jar, an 8-inch square piece of cloth and some string or ribbon. Start by wrapping up your cookies in the Glad® ClingWrap and tie off the top with some ribbon.

Once your cookies are wrapped, place them in the mason jar. Then place the lid on the jar, lay your cloth over the lid and tie the string (or ribbon) around the neck of the jar to hold the cloth on. Finally, place a bow on top of the jar to finish your tasty gift!

And that’s it! The recipe for the cookies is below, but you can also check out the “Memories in the Baking” website for more holiday recipes and ideas along with the great savings Quaker, Glad® and Mars have to offer at Target.
