Have you ever eaten dinner with your cat? No, I’m not talking about nibbling on cat food alongside them or letting them sample dinner from your plate (although, I’m pretty sure my Aunt Kathy does that on a regular basis) – I’m talking about preparing a tasty, wholesome meal while you do the same for your family.

I recently had a chance to do exactly that thanks to Rachael Ray and the folks at Nurish for Cats. My “dinner dates” were my two rescues – Harley and Bocca – and our Himalayan, Cupcake. They’re a part of our family, no doubt about it, which is why it’s important for me to feed them only the best, natural food for cats.

Most people know Rachael for her skills when it comes to making “people food,” but she knows a thing or two about healthy cat food, too. In 2008, Rachael began working with a team of pet nutrition experts to launch her line of Nutrish pet foods. The foods are made with simple, wholesome ingredients like real chicken and fish (which is always the number one ingredient in her pet foods).

Nutrish pet foods never contain any “junk,” like meat by-products, artificial flavors or preservatives. In other words, the same qualities you look for in meals for your family are the same qualities you can rely on when feeding your cats!

What’s even better, is that since it launched, proceeds from Rachael’s Nutrish line have raised more than $6 million for Rachael’s Rescue, an organization that helps animals in need.

My Nutrish package included a bag of dry formula food – Salmon & Brown Rice – and three different flavors of Nutrish natural wet cat food. And since the package was all about sharing a meal with your cats, the bag of goodies also included recipe cards with two of Rachael’s best dishes: Teriyaki Chicken with Brown Whole Grain Rice and Smoky Maple-Glazed Salmon.

We made the Teriyaki Chicken while our cats chowed down on some Nutrish. What was the consensus from everyone involved — both two-legged and four? In the words of Rachael Ray herself, YUM-O!

My husband and our three-year-old couldn’t get enough of the chicken, and our kitties devoured their Nutrish meal. Call me crazy, but since they’ve started eating Nutrish, they’re slightly better behaved. It’s almost as if they’re showing their appreciation for my efforts to feed them only the best cat food!

Check out the Nutrish website for a coupon and a listing of where to buy it (you can find it at Walmart or Target stores, among most other grocery stores). Feel free to also follow Nutrish on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for news and updates.
