How 20 Minutes of Reading Can Make Your Kids Smarter (Plus a Giveaway!)

I’m proud to say that of all the Diva’s toys and distractions, her bookshelf is the one she enjoys most. Even at two-and-a-half, I can already tell that she’s going to inherit my love of reading, and that makes me happier than a 12-year-old with a new Harry Potter book. Part of the reason she loves books is because I’ve made it a habit to read to her every day (and not just as part of her bedtime routine), and one of her favorite reading pastimes is the Tag Reading System by LeapFrog.

The Tag Reading System is a one of those amazing technological tools available to today’s kids that I wish I had when I was her age. It uses a special reading device (hers is a Tag Junior shaped like a bear) that reads aloud when held over the words on the page of LeapFrog books. The folks at LeapFrog have made it their goal to teach parents about the importance of reading to your children for at least 20 minutes each day. As part of their Reading Month awareness campaign, LeapFrog is inviting parents to take the Reading Month pledge on their Facebook page. (I took the pledge and so should you!)

In honor of Reading Month, LeapFrog is donating $2 million of books to America’s schools, and you can help. Go to Facebook and share the “Read 20 Minutes a Day” pledge, and LeapFrog will donate 5 books for every pledge! LeapFrog is also offering special deals on reading products all through March, in honor of Reading Month, including $3 off of Tag and Tag Junior books (you can print and redeem this offer here). According to the LeapFrog Reading Month webpage, “the more children read, the better readers they become.” They even cite studies that show that kids who read 20 minutes or more each day scored at or above the 90th percentile. But the benefits don’t end there. Here are just a few more perks that come with introducing your kids to the joys of reading on a daily basis:

      • A stronger bond with you

      • Improved speech and communication skills

      • Better concentration and attention span

If you’d like to introduce your own little one to the joys of reading with LeapFrog, the LeapFrog team has been nice enough to give me prize pack to give away to one reader. The prize pack includes four books with an approximate value of t$50, but the long-term value is priceless. Good luck and happy reading!

I was selected for this opportunity by Clever Girls Collective but content and opinions expressed here are my own. To take the LeapFrog Reading Month pledge, please visit their Facebook page. #LFReadingMonth #spon
