train and tree

I don’t know what it is about the holidays, but they really bring out the crafty side of me. I’m not joking, my glue gun sees 90 percent of its action in the month of December. My most recent creative streak came to life with a little help from Wrigley’s Extra Gum.

During a trip to Walmart, I picked up several packs of Wrigley’s Extra Gum (the ones with 15 sticks in each pack) in three different sugar free flavors – Polar Ice, Peppermint, and Spearmint. My goal was to transform each from a regular old pack of gum into a fun and festive Christmas keepsake.

But what would I create? A stocking stuffer? (Tempting, but no.) A Christmas tree ornament? (Nah, we’ve got enough of those.) A wreath? (The neighbor kids would eat it within a week.) And then it struck me. My husband has been wanting one of those electric trains for underneath the Christmas tree, so I’d make him a temporary “chew chew” by whipping up a candy train made out of Wrigley’s Gum!

supplies

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Five packs of Wrigley’s Extra Gum (single packs of 15 sticks each)
  • Peppermint wheels
  • Five caramel squares
  • A glue gun
  • Assorted candy to put on top of your Wrigley’s train cars

Break out the glue gun, because the first step will be gluing your peppermint wheels to your train cars.

After that, you’ll need to use a tiny dab of glue to create the caramel square engine car. You’ll also need a wee bit of glue to hold the candy cargo on each train car. (But only use a tiny bit, because you still want the candy to be easily removable.)

And that’s it! It’s not the electric train set my husband was hoping for, but it sure tastes a lot better. For more info about Wrigley’s Extra Gum, visit them on their website or follow them on Facebook!
