By now, you’re probably aware that I’m part of an ongoing series of blog entry for Project Envolve, which is sponsored by PPL Electric Utilities. Each entry in the series focuses on a different energy-saving household topic and is accompanied by a package filled with goodies and gadgets. My husband has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the grilling box of goodies.

A few weeks ago, that box arrived.

One peek inside, and my husband’s face lit up. “It’s grilling stuff!” he exclaimed, looking like a kid on Christmas morning as be tore into the box’s contents and took each item out.

“Check out these new grilling utensils! And look at this quesadilla maker! A thermometer! Wow, a bacon cooker for the grill! Now I can grill BACON!”

Yes, he was happy, and I was happy for him.

I’m also happy that he likes to grill, because grilling is energy-efficient (no stove, which means you’re not adding extra heat to your home and making your AC work overtime). And, it means I can relax a bit while my hubby happily fulfills his manly duty as grill master. Other bonuses: grilled meals have more flavor, they require very little cleanup (no dishwasher means less hot water used), and it gets the family outside for a little while.

While he and our four-year-old sat on the living room floor and ooh’d and ahh’d over the grilling gifts they’d just received, I got to work on a menu. The theme: One Day of Grilling. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert…all cooked on the grill. Here’s how it turned out:

I love avocado, but did you know that you can put an egg inside and grill it to perfection to create a tasty breakfast? I didn’t either, but we tried it, and it was avocado-mazing! (Recipe here)

My husband put his new grilled quesadilla maker to the test with this one. Quesadillas are super simple to make – just stuff them with grilled chicken, onions, cheese and some spices, and you’re all set! (Recipe here)

Grilled kebabs (either chicken or beef) are popular in our house, so I couldn’t plan a grilling day without them. The key to a great kebab, I’ve found, is in the marinade. For these kebabs, we used the my Pineapple Chicken Kebab marinade found here.

Grilled dessert doesn’t have to be super complicated. In fact, it can be downright easy. Like these grilled peaches with a cinnamon sugar drizzle and a scoop of ice cream. It just might be the perfect summer dessert. (Recipe here)

Overall, our “One Day of Grilling” was a delicious success, and I’m pretty sure it’ll lead to more days of grilling in the future! For more grilling tips, check out the PPL Electric Utilities “Taste the Energy Savings” grilling feature on their blog, The Wire.
