10 Ways in Which My Dog Prepared Me for Motherhood

  1. Dare to utter the words cookie, ball, “go bye by” or outside and prepare for continual whining until you fulfill the promise.
  2. They play, sleep (if you’re lucky), eat and poop. Period.
  3. There’s ear shattering barking crying when distressed, annoyed, hungry or bored – or just for the hell of it.
  4. They will eat anything (and I mean anything) off the floor.
  5. Your most prized possessions are not safe from drool, teeth marks, bouncy balls or soggy cheerios (see #4 for a fair warning).
  6. Most leave offensive smells that render even the strongest candles powerless (I hear this gets worse with age, which has been true for Stinky the Dog and the diva).
  7. Trimming nails usually ends with crying and bloodshed (yours not the theirs).
  8. No more impromptu vacations – or spontaneous night’s out for that matter. The only spontaneity in life will come in the form of poop and vomit.
  9. Unless you’re perfectly content living in a condemned house, constant cleaning is necessary.
  10. But the greatest of these is…love. They are ALWAYS happy to see you. Even when they’re tired. Or hungry. Or you pissed them off recently. Can you say that about anyone else in your life? Didn’t think so.

  16. Dogs are toddlers that never grow up – we waited to get a dog until the kids passed toddler-dom. My dog is the only one in the house that is always happy to see me and gives me unconditional love. Teenagers, just FYI, don’t do that. 🙂

Hope you are having a great SITS day!
